Lauren O’Brien – Inconsequential Dream
I’ve never really got into poetry, I enjoy reading it sometimes but most of what I’ve read is from the 19th century and was by Edgar Allen Poe, so I wasn’t sure what to expect when I came across Lauren O’Brien’s work.
Definitely some interesting stuff, Lauren O’Brien is obviously passionate about her craft, you can hear that when you listen to her music. One track in particular that stuck with me when I listened to her work was Rose’s Body. It’s a little difficult to explain, well, we all know what spoken word is. Its poetry, Laurens work is set to rock/alternative music. Doesn’t sound like anything new, but Laurens stuff has an edge that cuts down to your heart.
Especially Rose’s Body, a fluty track about love and suicide, and the ramifications of the vacuum that rushes in when we lose someone close to us.
